This is my favorite time of year for taking long walks, hiking in the mountains and exploring all sorts of new creative ideas. My senses are heightened with vibrant colors being carried by the breeze, scents from the richness of the forest floor and the feeling of change in the air.
Autumn is the season of the soul as the leaves fall gracefully from the trees. It's the time for letting go and embracing change. I went hiking this past weekend in search of fall colors and quiet time in nature as I was feeling a little trapped by this pandemic and not getting out as much as before. Leaves were floating around me and I felt like the forest was dancing. My heart and soul were dancing as one with the forest as I moved quietly and photographed the beauty. I saw trees with barely any leaves left to fall and the branches were reaching out as if they were taking deep breaths. I was able to take a deep breath and let everything but that moment fade away. The trees were letting go of everything to bare themselves and begin again.
October always finds me being more reflective than usual. It brings a quiet to my mind and my soul allowing me to open myself to discoveries. It is the perfect time to write in a journal or create a daily art journal to express whatever needs to be expressed. Pouring that extra cup of dark, rich coffee or enjoying a nice hot cup of tea while creating and being there in that special moment. This is the time to slow down some of the constant busyness and gain a deeper understanding of self and the connection of self to others and to nature. It is a time for comfort and a time to go within.
The season of the soul brings changes with letting go of that which does not work for us. That's why I know I need to surround myself with things that make me feel all warm and fuzzy. Letting go of some familiar ideas and habits requires a bit of extra TLC. I feel protected and content in those moments as I move through emotions and say goodbye to the old and embrace new thoughts. Nature tells us when it is time to plant the seeds and when it's time to harvest. It also tells us when its time to rest and build back that energy, drive and force.
My plan is to harvest creative ideas while enjoying the comforts of the crisp air, falling leaves and cups of tea with maybe a side of poetry. What are your favorite things about this time of year and are you doing anything differently since it is 2020?
